Matthew Gladly @therealGLADmatt 11/43
Comm. Maurice Cox - "The architects have worked really hard to make it a context sensitive building." Agrees on lack of color and fears it could be mistaken for an industrial building.
Matthew Gladly @therealGLADmatt 12/43
Comm. Flores - "This is a great program, but its not necessarily reflected on the theme of the building." "It doesn't have to reflect the building around it if it won't inspire the youth."
Matthew Gladly @therealGLADmatt 13/43
Comm Reyes: What is cost for families? BTHC Donnita Travis: the program sponsors the youths so no cost. For outside use they are using similar model as Pullman facility. League rentals will pay usage fee that supports on-going operations.

Matthew Gladly @therealGLADmatt 37/43
Questions and discussion - Comm. Villegas questions how this is actually monitored.

Cox - "There are many developer firms that are meeting these objectives. We should be polling a larger group of developers, not just the ones who tried to meet it and didn't."
Matthew Gladly @therealGLADmatt 38/43
Cox: We have to be mindful of the best practices for data performance like this. "We talk about construction, but its also architectural services, lawyer services . . ." "We should ask if this is the best way to meet city goals."
Matthew Gladly @therealGLADmatt 39/43
Cox: "We don't have minority businesses able to compete in the larger arena as primes."

Searl: "Encourage unions to bring on more minorities."

Villegas: He suggests sub committee about challenging capacity of minority and women owned firms in regards to SBA thresholds.
Matthew Gladly @therealGLADmatt 40/43
Smita Shah: Are these going to many different minority owned businesses or just a small amount of minority owned businesses?
Matthew Gladly @therealGLADmatt 41/43
Ald Burnett: If they come back to us repeatedly for contracts, they have to recap the last project. "We need to send this kind of message to these guys (developers)."

"I was so worried with all of these protests - I thought they'd tear up the construction jobs in these wards."
Matthew Gladly @therealGLADmatt 42/43
"They don't do it!" in regards to hiring black developers. "We need to address it or its gonna blow up in our face."

Comm. Cox - "It's going to take the carrot and the stick . . . I know we can do better, and we have to do better."
Matthew Gladly @therealGLADmatt 43/43
The commission votes to adjourn, thanks for sticking around. Enjoy the scraps inspected by this community watchdog. Until next time.
