Cofounder of Radio Bilingüe Hugo Morales said people of color have been historically left out of the conversation regarding cultural arts. “The guidelines for funding will be critical. The demographics of the population cannot be left out again.” https://t.co/eZlTXTkLFD
Commissioner Dr. Francine Oputa thanked the previous committee members for their work on the plan. “Mr. Morales, I think it’s a really good idea to use the demographics 0-5 in the plan.” https://t.co/4SGdfOiZ1j
Commissioner Jose Leon Barraza said he felt refreshed reading the plan. “Why can’t we connect with higher education institutions for this plan? There are more departments than just the Social Services department. There should be a better connection.” https://t.co/xmxvsh0ZpP
Chair McCoy said there has been a huge improvement on this plan compared to the previous plan.
“Thank you Lilia Chávez for fighting for this. I agree with Mr. Morales on the 0-5 demographics. My son is an artist so you will be seeing us.”
Commissioner Oputa made a motion to approve this item, with an amendment to add the 0-5 demographic.
The Commissioners unanimously voted to approve this item for City Council.
With no further discussion, Chair McCoy adjourned the @CityofFresno’s Parks, Recreation, and Arts Commission meeting at 6:15 p.m.
